About Us
Our journey began as an organizing effort to increase the number of wildlife habitats in our community and help the City of Bisbee become certified as a community wildlife habitat, one of only three in Arizona.
The City of Bisbee responded positively by providing us with a two-acre parcel, the former Upper Vista Park, where we focus on planting native plant species. We also adopted water harvesting techniques and installed a drip irrigation system. This not only conserves precious water but also creates happier and healthier plants.
Today, the former Upper Vista Park, now known as the Chihuahua Desert Garden at the Vista, continues to thrive under the guidance of a diverse group of experts supported by our dedicated volunteers.
At Project Wildlife, our mission is to preserve and restore local wildlife habitats by planting native trees and understory plants. This restoration process not only benefits local wildlife but also creates cooler and healthier environments for all living beings.
Our vision is to rehabilitate and restore public parks and public spaces, transforming them into thriving natural environments that support people and pollinators.
We are committed
to promoting education and awareness about the importance of planting native plants. To achieve this, we host workshops that connect residents with the beauty and significance of our local wildlife.
We believe
in building community, and our occasional Weekend Work Days are a great way to achieve this. These events bring people together to enjoy nature and each other’s company, providing a fun and engaging way to learn and contribute to the growth and well-being of our communities.

“Vista Park, a major landmark in Bisbee, overlooks the San Jose Mountains in Mexico. It had been neglected for a number of years. Recently, a group of eager, hard working volunteers took it upon themselves to spruce it up, and it is astounding the difference they have made. When I walk by the Park each morning, there they are; planting, trimming, watering, hauling rocks, having fun.
Through their efforts they have created a beautiful, local botanical garden of native plants. In addition, the original group has recruited others to make contributions to the project, such as purchasing equipment, purchasing plants, among other items. Truly, Bisbee’s Wildlife Project is a real jewel to the Bisbee landscape.”
